Recently I have been taking some travels down memory lane. Having moved back to my home town of Sarnia, Ontario, I have had the opportunity to once again enjoy the natural beauty of this area. Situated on Lake Huron, Canatara Park has been in my life since I was a little girl. From visiting the Children's Animal Farm, following the meandering pathways around Lake Chipican, swimming in Lake Huron, attending Easter in the Park, Christmas in the Park, Canada Day Celebrations, the Highland Games, or just relaxing feeding the ducks, one can find solitude or a social atmosphere all in one location.
Winter brings a new landscape to Canatara Park; snow and ice storms leave a lasting impression on the senses as you travel the paths throughout. The sunshine throws a spotlight on the trees and bushes, sending out a fantastic world of sparkle for your gaze. Children can be found playing hockey on the frozen sheet of Lake Chipican long after dusk. Care must be taken when walking along the awesome build up of thick ice on the shore of Lake Huron. Take it from someone who had the pleasure of falling through the snow covered ice, filling my boots to the top with frigid water!
Each city or town I have had the pleasure of exploring always has a hidden gem within its fold. Canatara Park is that Gem for Sarnia. A whole wonderful world in itself to a youngster, a place to find peace and serenity for many and certainly a treasure to cherish for a lifetime.
