Sometimes it is through the eyes of a younger person that we
truly experience the world around us. They share with us
an aspect, a vision, a foresight that we may not have seen or thought of during our busy adult lives!
Having the pleasure of going on the first big road trip (of many to come) with my niece, I was able to enjoy the journey through her perspective along with my own. The excitement of the
trip, the anticipation of the changing colours of the season, the enjoyment of togetherness - what an adventure we had!
Horseshoe Valley, located just north of Barrie, Ontario has long been a favourite
fall time locale for me. The colours of the season are spectacular, the air cool and fresh, and the leaves brilliant reds and golds beneath your boots. The morning mist lifts to announce the day, the dirt roads lead you on a winding journey through the countryside.
The Thanksgiving weekend in the Valley also brings the much anticipated
Annual Images Studio Tour. One of the highlights of a fall trip indeed! With my Mum and niece as company, (great to bring other art loving companions on this tour!) we explored each studio that we found on the detailed map. From barns to homes, lofts to studios, the venues were as unique as the art we experienced along the way. The variety of artisians was inspiring, the quality of work breathtaking at times. We had the opportunity to have interesting conversations with the artists on the tour. Their openess and passion for their craft shone through in their words and creations on display.
Horseshoe Valley is well known for its golfing in the summer and skiing in the winter..the real gem lies in the colours of the fall. Plan your trip around Thanksgiving and be ready with your camera! If you have traveled north from south western Ontario, be sure to take "the other route" home from the valley! Coming straight west from Horseshoe Valley over to Kincardine, south from there heading down into Goderich, Bayfield and Grand Bend - what a fabulous journey to be had!
