The West Coast of Canada really is one of the most beautiful places on earth. To truly enjoy you must allow your spirit to come alive! By embracing the West Coast way of life, and appreciating every waterfall, every beach, every sunset as though it was your only focus, you will see much more and live a deeper, more meaningful life!
The latest adventure taken was to Botanical Beach Provincial Park in Port Renfrew,BC. About 2 hrs west of Victoria, the road in is not for the faint of heart! The twists and turns, switchbacks and s-curves keep you very alert to the road! Watch out for roadside deer who inhabit this area! Though the weather can bring a rainy and cloudy day, the journey is well worth it! Be sure to check the tide reports for low tide before you take this journey or you won't be able to enjoy the well known tidal pools!
Driving straight through Port Renfrew, just follow the signs to Botanical Beach. Once there you will find there are two paths you can take down to the water's edge. Both are quite easy to manage. Don't forget to pay your parking fee, your car may not be there when you get back from your hike! You will see signs for Bears and Cougars! We were lucky enough not to encounter any on our trip!
When you arrive at the beach, you are surely overwhelmed by the sheer beauty of the area. The waves crash into the shore with fierce power. This is what the West Coast winters are known for, storms, waves and incredible fresh air! Though there does not seem to be much in the tidal pools this time of year, just exploring the shore is an adventure! Just watch you don't get your boots soaked by a crashing wave. Be sure to take the trail to Botany Bay back if you choose the Botanical Beach trail in..lots more great views to see!
A visit to the Lighthouse Pub, a local favourite spot, is well earned after hiking back through the rainforest. A great hot chocolate and good pub food awaits your visit. Take your time driving back from Port Renfrew, lots of waterfalls, beaches and provinical parks to explore on the way back!
